Let`s try this again. THE BLAST SEND 6/28 WAS WRONG. The preliminary event is .410 bore.

The registration form mailed to shooters for the 2017 Pa Open Skeet Championship indicates the preliminary event will be 28 ga. The preliminary event WILL BE .410 BORE as stated in the program. Sorry for the confusion.

Also, junior shooters must per-register and specify the gauge they will shoot for the 12 gauge and doubles events to ensure they receive free ammo. No ammo will be given to juniors for the preliminary event.

Registration information for the Pa State Skeet Shoot has been mailed. You may also get the information on the PSSA web site at http://pssa.com/stateshoot.asp Registrations will be accepted beginning July 1st.

Junior shooters will again be given free ammo from the PSSA for the 4 guns and Doubles, not the Preliminary. Junior shooters must preregister to receive free ammo. Please advise the PSSA if you wish to shoot the 20 gauge in the 12 gauge and doubles events so that we may be sure to have the ammo you want. Anyone not specifying that they will shoot a smaller gauge in the 12 gauge and doubles events will be given 12 gauge ammunition.

A special thanks goes to Steve Hildebrand and Gary Nace for the hours they spend each year combing through the scores from 2016 and determining the teams.

As discussed at the PSSA meeting August 2015…Roy Holtz and others are running an ad campaign to line the Shenecoy driveway with advertisements from our shooters and businesses. If you would like to support the shoot by purchasing a sign please contact Roy at royholtz@verizon.net or call him at 814-942-0514 for more information. Signs are $100 and will have copy on both sides so you can see them coming up the lane and going back down. They will be spaced far enough apart that you have time to read each as you come up the long driveway. All money will go to support the dinner and the PSSA.

Payment for the signs should be made payable to PSSA and mailed to John Davies, PSSA Secretary/Treasurer, 155 Sour Mash Trail, Fairfield, Pa. 17320.

In November 2015, at its Annual Winter Meeting, the PSSA voted to change its target year to follow the NSSA target year. For 2016 the PSSA target year will run from January 1st to December 31st. Also, in response to many requests from shooters having difficulty finding shoots in Pennsylvania, the PSSA voted to reduce the number of targets shot in Pennsylvania to qualify for All-State Teams. The changes are for targets to be shot in 2016 and will be used to compute the 2017 All-State Teams. These changes are also posted on the PSSA web site at pssa.com under “Of Interest.”

The new minimums will be:

Top Gun Team based upon HOA average and a minimum of 800 targets in each gauge and 500 doubles.

First and Second Teams and High Lady based upon HOA average and minimum of 800 targets in each gauge of which 200 must be shot in Pennsylvania.

Doubles team based upon average and 500 targets of which 200 must be shot in Pennsylvania.

Gauge Teams based upon gauge average and minimum of 500 targets of which 200 must be shot in Pennsylvania. Ineligible for gauge teams if named to First or Second Team, or High Lady.

Ladies Team and Concurrent Leaders based upon HOA average and minimum of 500 targets in each gun of which 200 must be shot in Pennsylvania.

All State Teams eligibility requires participation in at least one event of the PSSA State Championship.

At the PSSA Annual Winter Meeting held Sunday, November 15th, the PSSA voted to change its target year to match the NSSA’s target year. The new target year now follows the calendar year, January 1st to December 31st. Any targets shot from November 1st 2014 to December 31st, 2015 (14 months), will be used to determine 2016 State Teams. If you haven’t shot the minimum number of targets to qualify for a State Team, you still have time!

The PSSA also voted to change its financial year to match the calendar year. Clubs still may shoot registered targets as 2015 PSSA members. The notice for club dues will be sent out soon for the new membership year of January 1st to December 31st.

The PSSA also voted to reduce the minimum number of targets shot in Pennsylvania to qualify for the State Teams. The change will take effect beginning January 1st, 2016. Information on those minimums will follow shortly.

There are two positions that need to be filled in the PSSA Organization, State Shoot Manager and State Shoot Chief Referee. The State Shoot Manager is in charge of all aspects of the State Shoot. He/she has to make sure medals are ordered, programs published, food for the Saturday meal, hotel room blocks booked, supplies purchased, etc. The State Shoot Chief Referee is in charge of finding and scheduling referees for the State Shoot, referee field assignments, collecting and verifying score sheets, etc. These are important positions to the quality and smooth operation of the State Shoot. I am asking for two volunteers for these positions from the PSSA membership. I (John Mastalski) will work with the State Shoot Manager and Adam Linetty will work with the Chief Referee to show them what needs to be done for the 2016 State Shoot. The PSSA Officers, Shoot Manager, and Chief Referee have scheduled conference calls throughout the summer to share the tasks and keep on schedule.

I would like to see “new blood” in these positions. If you have any interest in either position please feel free to contact me by email: blacklab916@gmail.com or cell: 717-460-8222. I would like to have these positions filled before the November Winter Meeting.

There was a lot of debate on the type of target thrown at the PA State Shoot this year, the White Flyer Orange Dome target. The Board of Directors voted on changing back to the White Flyer All Orange target for the 2016 State Shoot.
There is another style of target that White Flyer offers, the Three Quarter Style target. The following link shows the 3 targets side by side as well as the reasoning for throwing this type of target. http://whiteflyer.com/three-quarter-style-target/ I want to revisit the type of target to be thrown at the 2016 State Shoot during the Winter Meeting. I will be bringing an example of each target to the winter meeting. Please voice your opinion through your club representative.

The pssa.com web site has changed. A new tab, titled “State Teams” has been added. Steve Hildebrand supplied the PSSA with state teams dating back to 2005. Steve and Gary Nace researched the teams. Thanks guys! Teams prior to 2005 will be posted if anyone can provide the PSSA with them.

To be consistent with the NSSA, beginning with the 2014 teams, the titles of the teams were changed. The 2014 and 2015 teams are based upon the previous year’s averages. Prior to 2014, the team title and year averages used were the same. For example, the 2012 team is based upon 2012 averages.

Another change to the web site is the photo section. Click on the photo section and you will see thumbnails of all the photos. This makes finding your ugly mug much easier!

It has been brought to the attention of the PSSA that in 2014 the NSSA added a new concurrent titled “Military Veteran.” To be eligible you must have served in the military and received an honorable discharge. It is a concurrent that has been added in addition the previous concurrent titles of “Retired Military” and “Active Military.”

The information provided to the PSSA by the NSSA for 2014 lists only 17 Pennsylvania shooters as being or having been in the military. We know there are many more.

Check your 2015 NSSA membership card, if you served in the military and are not listed as a “Military Veteran” along with your age concurrent, the NSSA needs a copy of your DD-214, if you wish to be eligible for the new concurrent.

Attention shooters: The 2015 Pennsylvania All State Teams list has been posted on pssa.com. The teams were determined by looking at shooters averages for shoots in 2014. Congratulations to all who made the teams.

A special thanks goes out to Gary Nace and Steve Hildebrand for combing through the averages to see who met the minimums and had the best averages.

Also recently posted to the web site are the requirements used to determine who made the 2015 teams base upon 2014 averages and the newly adopted requirements to be used on 2015 averages for the 2016 All State Teams. The new requirements were adopted at the 2015 winter meeting of the PSSA held in February. The changes from the old requirements are highlighted in yellow.
